Laurier offers academic programming with Indigenous content – from a whole degree to numerous courses.

Indigenous Studies

Enhance the breadth and depth of your knowledge by combining a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Indigenous Studies with a complementary program such as Human Rights, Criminology, Health Studies or Youth and Children’s Studies

Compliment your degree with an Indigenous Studies minor or take elective courses that interest you. We offer a number of courses in departments across the university that focus on Indigenous content that you can make a part of your Laurier experience.

Master of Social Work, Indigenous Field of Study

The Master of Social Work (MSW) Indigenous Field of Study is the first in Canada to combine a wholistic Indigenous worldview with contemporary social work practice, and includes the use of Indigenous Elders, a traditional circle process and Indigenous ceremonies. You’ll develop an understanding of and respect for the history, traditions and culture of the Indigenous peoples of Canada.

Gladue Principles: Indigenous Peoples and the Canadian Criminal Justice System

In partnership with the Office of Indigenous Initiatives, Laurier's Centre for Public Safety and Well-Being and the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, Laurier has launched Gladue Principles courses focused on Indigenous people's experience in the criminal justice system. This content was created as a response to requests to raise awareness of the issues related to Indigenous peoples' experience in the criminal justice system, and more specifically, to experiences from Indigenous people in the court system. Students and working professionals can learn through non-credit and credit courses or sign up for a non-credit certificate. The certificate includes 80 hours of asynchronous course work delivered online.
